art comp entry

Dear Principals, Art Specialists, and Caregivers,

With the holiday season swiftly approaching, we are excited to announce this year’s Youth Art Competition. This exhibition is open to K-10 students living in Utah Valley.

This year's Youth Art Competition will be displayed in conjunction with the exhibition Enduring Beauty: John Hafen and the Power of Art. As such, the prompt for this year's exhibition explores themes of beauty and the power of art. We encourage students to consider the following when exploring possible subject matter:

  • What inspires you to create?

  • Where do you find beauty?

The exhibition will be located in the Ingrid Nemelka Gallery on the Main Floor of the Springville Museum of Art from November 22rd to January 7th. The Museum will select a number of works to be included in the exhibition. A small number of works will also be chosen to receive cash prizes!

Artworks will be judged by the SMA Education staff and are to be original and individually conceived by the students, rather than class projects. No works will be considered if they contain glitter, candy, glued-on beans, macaroni, or similar materials that tend to fall off when handled or invite pests into the Museum.

Teachers and parents may bring entries to the Museum from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Thursday, November 13th and Friday, November 14th. As a result of the growing popularity of this show, we ask each school to limit their entries to no more than 50 works per school. Each student is limited to one entry. It is necessary to fill out and attach the entry card attached to this email with each work. The entry card must clearly list the artist’s first and last name, home phone number, parent email, grade, school, and teacher’s name and email. The entry cards should be attached to the back of the work. Works without fully completed entry cards attached will not be considered for the exhibition.

A list of accepted works will be posted on SMofA.org on Wednesday, November 18th by 5 p.m. We will contact each award winner to invite them to a private award ceremony on Saturday, November 22nd. A public opening reception will be held on the same day for all other students.

Once the show concludes on January 7th, artwork should be picked up by Friday, January 31st. Artworks will not be retained after that date.

A copy of the promotional flyer has been attached to this email if you would like to distribute it throughout your school, as well as to friends and family.

We look forward to working with you on this special project! If you have any questions, please refer to www.SMofA.org, email cabilez@springville.org or call 801-491-570
