Salem City Library is excited to announce our 2025 Summer Reading Program: Color Our World! Running from May 27 to August 2, this program invites children ages 5–18 to celebrate creativity and the joy of reading through fun events and activities all summer long! Starting May 27, kids can sign up using their library card—either in person or through the Beanstack website or app. Reading can be tracked online or with a paper log available at the library. For every 300 minutes read, participants will earn a small prize and an e-ticket for prize drawings at the end of summer. The more they read, the more chances they have to win!

This month, we’re celebrating Brayton Bird for receiving the Kindness Award! Brayton's teacher shared, "Brayton deserves this Kindness Award because of his compassion and ability to include others in need. During recess, Brayton noticed another student who is often alone and struggles to make friends. Brayton befriended this student and sat beside them, offering friendship and support. He also looks after students needing a friend in our class, ensuring they feel included and valued. He is willing to reach out to others around him when they need assistance with work. For example, this past month, there was a new student in class he is sitting next to him, and when she needed help completing assignments, he was willing to help her succeed in the assignment. He is also willing to reach out to those around him and to include them in his games and playtime. I have never heard a mean word come out of his mouth, and he has a cheerful disposition and smile for me at the beginning of every day."
